The Grand Nain is a short banana plant (2,00 m to 2,50 m), with a cylindrical bunch, a thick stem and it can produce up to 240 fruits of identical size (approximately 22 cm), which are slightly incurved and point upwards. The main trunk (the pseudostem) has dark brown, red or black patches. The bunch has a characteristic appearance with a long and bare rachis ending in the male flower and contrasting with a bunch of abundant, closely-packed fruits.
