A new variety, TMS 96/1632, has a high dry matter content (35%) and a very high yield (45 t/ha), and is resistant to multiple diseases and cassava pests. Because of its high resistance to drought it is permanently green.

TMS 96/1632 was developed from M94/0461 x TME1; the stems of this variety grow in a zigzag shape and it has a narrow violet-green leaf. It can reach 3 m in height and has a light brown stalk; the tuber has white coloured flesh and a dark brown rind. The tuber has a medium neck.

The inter-nodes are short (on average 5,6 cm) and the diameter of the stem is medium to large.
